Background

Anti-Transglutaminase IgA

Transglutaminase IgA kitTissue transglutaminase IgA (tTG) has shown to be the endomysial autoantigen of celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis, the skin form of celiac disease. The expression of tTG is increased in the intestinal mucosa of celiac patients. IgA class antibodies to tissue transglutaminase are produced locally in the gut mucosa, and probably affect the activity of tTG, suggesting its role in the pathogenesis of celiac disease.

Antibodies to the tTG appear in the circulation concordantly with the appearance of the mucosal lesions in the gut mucosa, and disappear in 6-12 months during the gluten free diet with healing of the mucosa. Therefore, measuring of IgA class tTG antibodies has proved to be a sensitive and specific tool for screening of celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis and for the follow-up of the gluten free diet.

The Biohit Anti-Transglutaminase IgA ELISA kit is intended for the quantitative determination of human anti-tissue transglutaminse IgA in serum.

Anti-Transglutaminase IgG

Serum IgA deficiency is found in 1:700-1:400 Caucasians. Subjects with serum IgA deficiency have an increased prevalence of autoimmune diseases, e.g. celiac disease. A tenfold increase in the prevalence of celiac disease has been observed in these patients. Thus 5-10 % of IgA deficient subjects have celiac disease. The screening for celiac disease in IgA deficient subjects cannot be performed using assays measuring IgA class celiac antibodies, instead assays measuring IgG class antibodies, e.g. Anti-Transglutiminase IgG ELISA test, should be used.

The Biohit Anti-Transglutaminase IgG ELISA kit is intended for the qualitative/semiquantitative detection of IgG class anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies in human serum.

The Biohit Anti-Transglutaminase IgA and IgG ELISA kits are based on a sandwich enzyme immunoassay (ELISA) utilizing a horseradish peroxidase conjugated detection antibody.
